The Number 1 reason most wine is ruined, is keeping it TOO long. Know how to evaluate which wines are best cellared. Learn which wines to cellar and which wines to not keep in the cellar too long Learn what mixture of wines most cellars contain, and the different styles of cellaring (by region, by vintage, by style, etc.). In 2004 I became a civilian government employee working on Davis Monthon AFB in Tucson. With my desire to teach, and my ever growing desire to learn more about wine, I took a 5 year assignment that put me in London, England and Aviano, Italy. While in Europe I enjoyed studying and exploring all of the major wine producing regions. Although I studied wine and viticulture throughout my life, I became truly serious in 2002 and began working in the wine industry. I enrolled in the Wine and Spirits Education Trust program earning an Advanced Certificate (with Merit). I am a member of several professional and local wine organizations and a member of MENSA. I recently earned my C.S.W. (Certified Specialist of Wine). I continue to pursue learning at every opportunity.
My passions are wine, education, classic cars and a few other distractions that keep me busy, but that's not where we should begin.
I began my professional career as an Air Force officer. I spent 23 years in the Air Force working in adult education, including an assignment as the Educational Advisor for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (GEN. Colin Powell at the time) at the Pentagon. While working in Washington D.C. I was also a White House volunteer performing many activities, including White House tours.
Building on academic degrees in Chemistry and Natural Sciences, I completed my Ph.D. in Education at the age of 31. Upon leaving the Air Force, I went into public education and held AZ State certificates as a secondary science teacher, school principal and school superintendent. In 2003 I was recognized as Arizona's School Administrator of the Year.
